Hi! I'm Kelsie Delisle— A cake decorator turned Sugar Artist who has loved flowers and cakes since those early days as a toddler making “mud pies for the birds” in my backyard.

Now I have two tots of my own, and oooh boy do I have intimate knowledge of what “so much to do, so little time” means. I’ve been working in the cake industry since I was fresh out of high school. In bakeries large and small, I saw that though cake artists wanted high-quality flowers for their cakes, they couldn't dedicate the time to create them.

10 years ago, I hung up my oven mitts, and I stopped making cakes. Now I focus on my creative passion: Sugar Flowers!

How It All Began

Over a decade ago, I started Sugar Flowers by Kelsie Cakes after working in different bakeries and luxury wedding cake studios. I knew that cake artists wanted high-quality Sugar Flowers for their cakes, but didn't always have the time or the space to create them.

That's when I hung up my oven mitts, and went all-in on creating the botanically inspired, delicate-but-durable Sugar Flowers you see here! The sugar flowers you find here are just like the ones I create for my custom designs: made with love for passionate cake artists and flower lovers of all kinds. My hope is that this shop will be an inspiring and joyful part of your wedding planning process!

What’s your favorite flower to make?

Definitely dahlias! I love all the little petals, and putting them all together to make such a bold statement flower!

Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate while reading?

Coffee, baby! (But you get extra gold stars for putting chocolate in the coffee)

What keeps you entertained while working?

I love listening to audiobooks, podcasts, stand up comedy, or even sitcoms while I work! My lastest obsessions have been: Schitt's Creek, Marcello Hernandez, the Heated Rivalry book series, Pod Save America, and Rebel Unicorn Crafts on Youtube.

What's the hardest flower to make?

It changes as I grow and learn! I'm still struggling with perfecting my scabiosa, but what I really wanna figure out is how to make zinnias!!

What cake trends are you loving?

Obviously, the floral trends!! The whimsical romantic garden trend is like *the best* but I'm not hating on the small cake trends, either-- small cakes can still make a big impact! (with lots of flowers)

What else does a beautiful floral wedding cake need?

I am Team Cake Meadows for weddings! Adding a lush, floral arrangement on your cake table, either nest-style around the bottom of the cake, or even as a huge statement piece coming up from the floor, really elevates a cake from beautiful to "Statement Centerpiece." Ask your florist, and trust me on this one!

Most-loved sugar flower tool?

I can only pick one?! My wooden and steel ball tools from World of Sugar Art are my ride-or-dies. I've had them for almost 10 years without any rusting, nicks, or damage!!

Why start this shop?

I realized that I didn't love the time anxiety of making fresh cakes (and also didn't love the amount of burns I got working in a bakery's kitchen) but I'm obsessed with making flowers!

This shop is a place for me to focus on my zone of genius while letting other artisans (like talented cake decorators!) focus on theirs.

I provide the flowers, you or your baker provides the cake, and a beautiful, delicious, fun time will be had by all!
