How to Know if Sugar Flowers Are the Right Fit for Your Wedding Cake

Planning a wedding cake is a big deal, and with so many options, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

If you’ve stumbled across sugar flowers and wondered, are these right for me? Then you’re in the right place.

This guide will help you think through everything you need to decide if sugar flowers are the perfect match for your cake style, budget, and timeline.

Psst! Already know the answer is “yes”?! You can browse ready-to-ship flowers or custom options at kelsiecakes.com

Sugar Flowers might be the perfect fit for you if…

Check off the ones that you can relate to!

Let’s see if you’ve found your perfect match with sugar flowers…

  • You want your cake to be a centerpiece, not just dessert
  • You really love adding personal, sentimental touches to your wedding day, from your stationery suite to your first dance.
  • You love flowers and you want the ones for your cake to be picture-perfect.
  • You’re dreaming of specific flowers or colors that aren’t in season for your wedding
  • Your venue doesn’t allow fresh flowers on food, or the flowers you want are toxic (like baby’s breath, anemones, or lily of the valley)
  • You want a wow-worthy cake without pouring hours into making every single detail yourself
  • You (or your baker) want floral elements that are food-safe, detailed, and long-lasting
  • You’re planning ahead and want something that ships early and stores easily
  • You’re a cake designer looking to save time but not compromise on beauty
  • You want a keepsake after your wedding (yes, sugar flowers can last for years!)

Still Not Sure Yet?

Let’s clear up some common myths!

If you’ve never heard of sugar flowers before, or if you’ve heard of them but never had the pleasure of using them as cake decor, you might have some questions! Which is totally normal, since they are such a niche product. I’ve collected some of the more frequent questions I’ve been asked about sugar flowers, and answered them for you here!

Common Myth The Reality
“Are sugar flowers edible?” Sugar Flowers are made of sugar and egg whites, but also contain non-edible structural elements like wires or cotton centers. So they’re not meant to be eaten, they’re just beautiful, cake-safe decor.
“Will the sugar flowers look cheap and fake?” Nope. Each petal is handcrafted to look like real flowers, even down to the veining taken from molds of real flowers. And these imitations of mother nature are a fine form of flattery, not an attempt to fool you!
“Will my sugar flowers arrive in time for the wedding?” Absolutely. When you place  your order (either through The Shop or when confirming your Custom Design Proposal) we’ll have an estimated delivery date in place to arrive before the wedding!.
“Can I put sugar flowers on the cake myself?” Yes! I include guides, tools, and videos to make it easy. Your baker, venue coordinator, or even your sister in law who’s helping you plan can do it, too.
“What if I’m on a budget?” I’ve got options, including the predesigned arrangements in The Shop. You can still have something gorgeous without blowing through your budget.
